Many Omaha area Peru State alumni joined together on Tuesday February 19th, at the Tiburon Golf Club for the National Alumni Association’s (NAA) Omaha Meet & Greet.  The guests enjoyed a slide show of past NAA events and campus updates while they reminisced about their days at Peru State.  PSC President, Dr. Dan Hanson gave a brief update on the Oak Bowl construction and all of the recent student achievements at PSC. 

 



Faculty Staff Appreciation Reception

On January 31 the Peru State Foundation Board of Directors hosted a Faculty-Staff Appreciation reception to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all PSC employees. More than 60 employees were treated to a heartfelt message from Foundation Chairperson Sara Beth Donovan, '85, on the impact the faculty and staff had on her professional growth, as well as the impact they continue to have on PSC students today.

 



2013 NAA Chili Feed

The 2013 National Alumni Association Alumni Chili Feed was a huge success! Approximately 400 attendees included alumni, students, faculty, staff, family and friends of all ages. Even the Central Methodist University Eagles Women's Basketball team joined in the event and made a generous donation to the cause.

On November 8, 2012, more than 50 Peru State alumni and friends gathered at HiMark Golf Course for the annual Lincoln area Meet and Greet.   Guests chatted and reminisced, but the lead topic of the night was the renovation to the Oak Bowl.  The attendees were able to watch the video showing computer images of what the completed Oak Bowl will look like.  PSC President, Dr. Dan Hanson gave a rundown of some of the recent PSC student successes and took questions about all of the projects occurring on campus.   Several individuals took the floor to speak about their love for PSC and how the college has positively affected students, alumni, staff, faculty, families, communities, etc.

A Special Thank You to Rod Vandeberg

The PSC Foundation would like to give a special thank you to long-time Foundation board member, and former Falls City, Nebraska, Mayor, Rodney Vandeberg, for his article, Peru State College, which appears in the recent Fall issue of the Peru Stater.  Rod’s article is filled with optimism and great vision for the future at PSC.  Rod devotes a lot of precious time and effort to his work with Peru State, and through that hard work, he has been a big part of the progress taking place on campus.

50-Year Reunion Celebration

On September 28th, 2012 members of the class of 1962 stepped back in to the halls of Peru State for their 50-Year Reunion Celebration. The classes of 1961 and 1963 were also invited to join in the fun. The event began with registration in the library while some of the PSC ambassadors took the guests on tours of The Campus of a Thousand Oaks. A reception was held at the home of the PSC president, where Dr. and Mrs. Hanson treated guests to a bevy of delicious appetizers before moving on to the Student Center for a banquet. Todd Simpson, Executive Director of The Foundation, presented the class of 1962 with engraved medals to honor the special milestone occasion. After a presentation from Dr. Hanson, to update everyone on the progress that PSC is making, guests of the banquet enjoyed some after-dinner entertainment by The Ethnic Singers, a band is made up of PSC Alumni, who perform sixties folk music.

 

The following day was the Peru State Homecoming football game, so 50-Year guests were treated to special amenities for the homecoming celebration. First there were reserved parade seats and then special guest tables for the festival on the quad. The festivities were topped off with reserved seating near President Hanson for football game.

The National Alumni Association sponsored refreshment stations for Freshmen Move-In Day on August 17, 2012. The stations were set up in the entrances to Delzell and Eliza Morgan Halls to welcome incoming freshmen. National Alumni Association Board members, Mike Guilliatt and Carlos Harrison along with Alumnus, Bill Witty passed out cookies and drinks to incoming freshmen and their families as they welcomed the newcomers to their first day on the PSC Campus.

Around 20 guests came to The Sanctuary in Shenandoah, IA to relax and reconnect with PSC.  Guests enjoyed an array of first-class finger foods in a beautifully decorated dining room, that at one time, served as a church.  Carlos Harrison, a 1951 graduate of PSC, hosted the event.  Dr. Sara Crook was on hand to give a presentation about the upcoming Trails and Tales tour, and PSC president, Dan Hanson, wowed the crowd with all of the projects taking place on campus.  Both Dr. and Mrs. Hanson visited with all of the attendees as they discussed the exciting things that are happening at PSC.

Trails and Tales VIII: "Exploring the Roots of American History and Literature," is the eighth offering of Peru State College's popular and innovative interdisciplinary history and literature tour. This time the nine-day chartered bus tour will feature numerous stops at sites which illustrate American Colonial and early United States history. Additionally, the tour will feature stops at the homes, birthplaces, and, even, graves of American literary giants. Spots on the tour are limited, and this one promises to be particularly memorable. So join your fellow Peru State friends on this journey sponsored by your alma mater.

Annual Northern California Alumni Reunion

April, 28, 2012

The Annual Northern California Alumni Reunion was held April 28, 2012. Peruvians from northern California and southern Oregon gathered at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California, to share stories and reminisce about their days on the Campus of a Thousand Oaks. Many of the attendees were Peru Staters by way of the V-5 and V-12 Officer Training Programs from World War II. PSC Foundation Executive Director Todd Simpson attended the gathering and gave an update on the state of the College. A great time was had by all!

On April 26 more than 80 Peruvians and friends joined the PSC Omaha Alumni Club for their annual dinner and auction in Omaha, Nebraska. Guests included Nebraska State College System Board member Bob Engles from Auburn and Peru State College President Dan Hanson. Co-Presidents of the Omaha Alumni Club, Ron and Fran Witt, served as emcees.

The National Alumni Association hosted their annual chili feed in the AWAC. An estimated 480 guests cheered on two Bobcat victories and enjoyed eating delicious chili and cinnamon rolls.   Members of the National Alumni Association Board helped serve the chili.

Four individuals along with the 1961-62 Men's Basketball team were inducted into the Peru State College Athletic Hall of Fame. A Banquet was held in their honor and they were recognized during halftime of the football game where the Bobcats took on Evangel University.

Alumni Reconnect on Cape Cod

October 6-8, 2011

On October 6, 7 and 8, 2011, 40 Peru State alumni and guests gathered in Dennis Port, Massachusetts, to enjoy camaraderie, share stories and reunite with old friends at the 2011 PSC Cape Cod Alumni Reunion. Reunion organizers Andy Anderson '67, Jan DeMott '65, Maggie Slayter '66 and Brenda Teleen '66 did a wonderful job organizing the event. The resort was right on the beach and just minutes away from sightseeing and shopping. The Thursday dinner was a choice of prime rib or lobster and Friday's meal was at a traditional Irish pub with live music. The event was attended by PSC President Dan Hanson and wife Elaine and Foundation Executive Director Todd Simpson and wife Michelle. A wonderful time was had by all! The alums can't wait until the next Cape Cod reunion.

Members of the Class of 1961 and the Class of 1962 were honored guests at Homecoming. The reunion began in the library where the fellow classmates met and got reacquainted. A campus tour was taken and President and Mrs. Hanson hosted a reception at their home. The Banquet followed in the Student Center to honor the 50 year graduates. On Saturday, the alums enjoyed reserved seating for all of the homecoming activities, including the parade, festival, and football game.

Dr. and Mrs. Hanson's hosted a reception at their home and the banquet was served at the Student Center. Dr. Holtz, Dr. Drew and his daughter, Amy Jones, highlighted Dr. Snyder's contributions to Peru State College. Dr. Snyder spoke and Dr. Clemente prepared and presented a slide show dedicated to Dr. Snyder.

The 3rd Annual Alumni Chili Feed was a great success! Nearly 300 alumni and guests enjoyed basketball, Chili and camaraderie on February 12, 2011, in the Al Wheeler Activity Center on the Peru State College Campus. The Women's team defeated York College 84-47. The Men's team lost an overtime battle to York 83-73. Alumni and guests enjoyed both games, and the wonderful Chili provided by the National Alumni Association. Be sure to join us next year!
